Our expertly guided events blend the thrill of firewalking with practices for personal growth, creating unforgettable moments for people of all ages and backgrounds.
The flame at our center is more than a path of hot coals — it’s a doorway into deeper knowing. As you stand before the fire, you’re invited to examine the stories that have kept you small and to recognize the courage that’s been with you all along.
Ron and Patty Schaeffer are the co-founders of Obsidian Firewalking. As Master Firewalk Instructors certified by Sundoor, The Firewalking Center, and Eight Directions, they bring years of firewalking experience—rooted in decades of work in education, peer support, and ceremonial leadership. Their mission is to strengthen family bonds and inspire personal growth through unique, transformative experiences.
In addition to leading group firewalks, Ron and Patty host innovative “Family Fire” events that invite parents, children, and grandparents to step into the embers together—deepening connection and trust across generations. They also lead multi-day retreats that offer space for reflection and renewal beyond a single day’s experience.
Each spring, they host our signature Firewalking Instructor Training (FIT), mentoring new instructors in the art and science of firewalking. The training emphasizes safety, empowerment, and personal transformation, preparing leaders to carry the flame with integrity and care.
We honor the sacred nature of the fire by upholding the highest safety standards. Consent and autonomy are at the heart of every ceremony—participants are invited, never pressured, and may opt out at any time.
Our work is rooted in kinship. We recognize that every fire is part of a larger constellation of traditions. We gather in a spirit of respect for all cultures and aim to build supportive communities around our flame.
The fire teaches us reciprocity with the Earth. We source wood responsibly, minimize our environmental impact, and tend our fires with gratitude for the land and its caretakers.
The embers invite us to grow. We offer tools and practices—from board breaking to reflective journaling—that support lasting personal transformation beyond the walk itself.
